The San Francisco Giants, whose pitching staff is devoid of Madison Bumgarner, Jeff Samardzija, Mark Melancon, and Will Smith, have pitched surprisingly well this season. But their good pitching has been wasted on an offense has scored by far the fewest runs per game in all of baseball. Their troubles have been compounded by implementations of old-school strategies that do far more harm than good, and San Francisco has seen its marginal playoff odds plummet in just three short weeks. Something needs to change — and fast — if the Giants have real visions of contention in 2018 and beyond.
